Social Groups
Parish Social Team
We have a number of events throughout the year that everyone is welcome to. We regularly update our Facebook page with details of our social events throughout the year. Below is the calendar of events for 2026.
Coffee Morning Team
Our coffee morning team plays an important role in parish life by creating a warm and welcoming space for parishioners to meet, chat and build relationships. Through their friendly service, they help parishioners connect, build friendships and feel part of the community. Their ministry shows that even simple acts of hospitality are a powerful way to serve God and one another. Coffee Mornings are held after 10 am Mass on the first, third & fifth Sundays of the month.
Children and Youth
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
The aim of the Liturgy of the Word with Children at Sacred Heart is to proclaim the Gospel to the children who attend by gathering them together with adult leaders to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding.
Children aged from 3 until they have made their first Holy Communion are invited to celebrate God’s Word together during our Sunday Masses. Children start Mass in church with their families. Before the First Reading Father will invite those children who wish to take part in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word to come forward. He presents them with the Children’s Lectionary and they then go in procession to the parish hall where a worship space has been prepared for them. The children continue to follow the same structure of the Mass until after the intercessions when the group processes back into church as part of the Offertory Procession, returning the Children’s Lectionary to Father and then returning to their families. Children should be registered each week as you arrive for Mass.
Children’s liturgy is offered at our 10am Mass each Sunday apart from during the school summer holidays and Christmas Day and Easter Sunday when children celebrate with their families.
All adult leaders are subject to Enhanced DBS checks.
Altar Servers
Our altar servers play an important role in the worship of our church. Through their careful service at the altar, they help our worship to flow smoothly and reverently.
By carrying the candles, helping during preparation of the gifts, they bring beauty, order and devotion to our services. Their example of quiet attentiveness is an example to other children and young people to take part in worship actively.
We are grateful to those adults who support our altar servers and help them learn the value of preparation, cooperation and reliability strengthening the whole community.
Any young person who has made their First Communion and is interested in being an Altar Server should speak to Father Christopher.
Children’s Mass Bags
We have Children’s Mass Bags on a coat stand in the foyer which are available to use at all Masses. In each bag there is a Bible or book of Bible stories, another faith-based story book, a prayer book, a colouring book and pencils and a Bible character. The resources are aimed at children up until they begin preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. We ask that each family takes only one bag and uses it quietly to support their child/ren to learn more about Jesus and engage with the Mass. The books in a couple of the bags are aimed at very young children, however, the other books are suitable for mixed ages. We ask that after Mass, the bags and its contents are returned to the coat stand so more children can enjoy the bags each week.
Children’s Newsletters
Each week there are two children’s newsletters available for children and families to use. ‘LOOK’ is aimed at children aged 4 – 9 and ‘ICHTHUS’ is aimed at children aged 8+. They explain the Gospel story in age appropriate language and include a prayer and a variety of activities that will engage children helping them to get to know the person of Jesus.
Autism Resources
We can support those with autism and special needs.
